Ratings Report:

  • After monster ratings last week, THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL took a tumble in both week-to-week and year-over-year ratings. Pending final updates, last night’s game between Jacksonville and Tennessee is sitting at a 2.2, about half that of prelim ratings last week (fast national: 4.5/final: 6.4). The 2.2 is additionally down 22% compared to ratings for week 14 of the regular season in 2017.
  • CBS trailed behind Fox; BIG BANG THEORY returned two-tenths down after a two-week break, earning a 2.1 in adults 18-49, versus last episode’s 2.3. YOUNG SHELDON was similarly down two-tenths, earning a 1.6. SWAT also dropped a tenth in the 10pm hour, scoring a 0.7, while MURPHY BROWN stayed steady at 0.8 for a third week in a row. MOM managed to grow by a tenth, earning a 1.2 this week.
  • NBC mostly maintained for the evening, with SUPERSTORE (0.9), THE GOOD PLACE (0.8) and I FEEL BAD (0.4) all matching ratings from last week (one note: SUPERSTORE grabbed its largest audience of the season last night at 3.42 million viewers). WILL & GRACE ticked up a tenth to 0.7.
  • ABC went full Christmas for the night; an airing of the classic cartoon A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS pulled a respectable 1.2, while the premiere of THE GREAT AMERICAN BAKING SHOW: HOLIDAY EDITION earned a 0.7 and 3.67 million viewers.
  • On The CW, both SUPERNATURAL (0.5) and LEGACIES (0.4) ticked up a tenth from last week’s ratings.

Of Note:

  • Basketball stayed on top of Wednesday cable ratings, although it was the NBA taking over from the NCAA. ESPN took over all three top spots on the list, with a live broadcast of San Antonio versus LA won the night at 0.8 in 18-49s, with an earlier game between Philadelphia and Toronto following closely behind at 0.7. AFTER THE BUZZER rounded out the top three at 0.6.
  • Elsewhere on the list, BLACK INK CREW on VH1 held a steady 0.5, but the rest of the field didn’t fare nearly as well.  Comedy Central’s SOUTH PARK stumbled slightly, off one-tenth from last week’s 0.5 to receive a 0.4.  VIKINGS (0.4) on History took a predictable one-tenth hit after premiering to a 0.5 last week.
  • A new installment of A&E’s hit LIVE PD landed fairly high on the list; LIVE PD WED scored a 0.4, up a tenth from the 0.3s the show regularly grabs.

OTHER NEWS:

  • DEVELOPMENT NEWS:
    • Two days after Kevin Hart announced he would be hosting the 91st Oscars, he has walked away from the self-proclaimed “dream job” amid controversy over fairly overt homophobic tweets from ten years ago. Good luck to the Academy finding another wiling sucker…I mean, honored recipient, to host the gig after this.
  • PROJECTS GREENLIT/ORDERED:
    • Fire, meet ice. Check out the first official tease for the final season of GAME OF THRONES HERE
  • 2018 IN REVIEW:
    • You knew these were going to start coming – first up is YouTube’s annual REWIND I got about three minutes into it before I had to admit that I only knew a handful of the people featured (which, judging by the comments, is a lot of people’s reaction). So far, REWIND has stacked up more the 35 million views since premiering yesterday.
