Ratings Report:

  • It was a predictably rerun heavy night on Thanksgiving Eve, and appropriately, A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING on ABC put up the highest rating of the evening, earning a 1.5 among adults 18-49 throughout the 3-hour event.
  • Only SURVIVOR on CBS had a larger audience than ABC’s Charlie Brown, grabbing 7.09 million viewers, but dropping a tenth from last week, earning a 1.3 this time around. However, the lack of competition helped the rest of CBS’ shows; both SEAL TEAM (0.9, +.1) and CRIMINAL MINDS (0.9, +.2) both rose in rating and captured the win in their respective time slots (not hard against such a lack of competition).
  • NBC stumbled a bit; the premiere of HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT captured a 0.6, three-tenths off its season five average of 0.9. I’m a little weirded out by the decision to air a season opener on the busiest travel day of the year in the US, but suspect the show will regain some ground when it comes back in the second week of December. A SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE special rounded out the night for NBC, scoring a time-slot winning 1.0, but overall audience was relatively small at 3.64 million overall (virtually the same audience size a rerun of Modern Family captured).
  • The rest of the broadcast field wisely took the night off.

Of Note:

  • ESPN continued to top the cable ratings this week, this time with a live broadcast of college basketball. The Auburn Tigers vs. Duke Blue Devils game reached a high of 0.8 among adults 18-49, beating typical Tuesday winner WWE SMACKDOWN, which came in at 0.7 this time around. Rounding out the top three was History Channel’s CURSE OF OAK ISLAND, maintaining a 0.7.
  • Elsewhere on the list, BELOW DECK on Bravo posted another 0.5, and MTV’s CHALLENGE: FINAL RECKONING slipped a little, posting a one-tenth-lower 0.4 this week. WELCOME TO MURDERTOWN on Investigation earned a steady 0.3.

OTHER NEWS:

  • HAPPY AMERICAN THANKSGIVING! In honor of the holiday, I’m attaching the most American photo I could find to honor the holiday: please enjoy seeing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady chowing down on a turkey leg.
  • CANCELATIONS:
    • Ouch, talk about ruining the holidays for some – ABC has canceled TAKE TWO, the procedural drama from Andrew Marlowe (Castle) and starring Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian. While this is not at all a surprising move (the show never gained much traction, ratings or audience wise, and Marlowe is widely known in the TV writing community as being a divisive tyrant in the room and uncooperative during production), the choice to announce on Thanksgiving Day seems more than a bit cold.
