Ratings Report:

  • CBS Sunday primetime is a bit scrambled due to an overrun of the PGA Championship broadcast, but BIG BROTHER is still sitting atop the 18-49 ratings, having pulled a 1.4 for the night, down a tenth from last week. Later on in the evening, ELEMENTARY earned its usual 0.4, but both programs are subject to larger than usual final adjustments.
  • ABC had a solid night, maintaining ratings for CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD (1.0), THE $100,000 PYRAMID (0.8) and TO TELL THE TRUTH (0.7) for another week in a row.
  • Jennifer Lopez led SHADES OF BLUE had a good night on NBC, pulling a 0.6 in preliminary ratings, up two tenths from last week, whereas Fox suffered its lowest ratings yet for the TEEN CHOICE AWARDS, which put up an anemic 0.3, down two tenths from the 0.5 it scored last year.

Of Note:

  • NFL network’s coverage of the NFL preseason led the Thursday cable ratings this week. Broadcasts of the Browns vs Giants and Cowboys vs 49ers games scored the top 2 spots of the night with 0.6 and 0.5 ratings in adults 18-49, steady with what the preseason games grabbed on the network this time last year.
  • A&E’s LIVE PD: PD CAM rounded out the top three for another week, also with a 0.5, while also grabbing high slots for flagship show LIVE PD: POLICE PATROL, each with 0.3s.
  • Elsewhere on cable, FX’s SNOWFALL maintained its previous 0.4 once again, while USA’s QUEEN OF THE SOUTH ticked up one-tenth from its previous 0.3 to a 0.4. The History Channel’s ALONE was down a tenth to a 0.3, and following its premiere last week, Bravo’s SHAHS OF SUNSET was even with another 0.3.

OTHER NEWS:

  • DEVELOPMENT NEWS:
    • MCMILLIONS | Unrealistic Expectations (Mark Wahlberg)

Log Line: a true crime original documentary series that reveals the entire outrageous account of a McDonald’s Monopoly game scam as told by the participants in the case, including the prizewinners and the FBI agents who nabbed Jerry Jacobson, a former police officer, who was found to be at the heart of the complicated scheme. It also will include archival footage shot by the agents as part of their sting operation.

  • Currently being shopped to streamers and broadcast channels; no deals yet in place
  • PROJECTS GREENLIT/ORDERED:
    • Fox has launched a mobile trivia game to rival viral hit HQ Trivia. Titled FN GENIUS and hosted by Jordan L. Jones, one of the stars of upcoming Fox freshman comedy REL. The launch was heavily promoted around Simpsons episodes and Teen Choice Awards last night and results of that airing will determine the size of the series order and frequency.
      • Regardless of order, Fox has been pushing partnership deals with several brands in the late fall/US holiday corridor. (FYI, Twix was the premiere sponsor for the game)
      • The game is being seen as a test market for finding new ways to reach younger audiences that tend towards mobile entertainment, and help advertisers meet them “on their ground,” while still encouraging traditional viewing on the linear channel.
