Ratings Report:

  • In a field of mostly repeats, it wasn’t difficult for the summer premiere of BIG BROTHER to top the night, although its 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 was two tenths lower than its summer 2017 premiere. The two-hour debut was the highest rated of the night and gave a bump to CODE BLACK, which earned a 0.8 overnight, a tenth up from last week.
  • Fox’s lineup of Gordon Ramsey shows held up well against CBS; MASTERCHEF came in at 1.0, even with last week, while recently renewed 24 HOURS TO HELL AND BACK ticked up a tenth, earning a 1.1.
  • REVERIE on NBC continues to slip, dropping another tenth to 0.3, although the audience grew slightly (1.8 million this week versus 1.75 million last week). THE ORIGINALS also slipped a tenth to 0.2.

    • And in further Fox programming news, the network has canceled Adam McKay and Craig Robinson’s freshman comedy GHOSTED, surprising no one. While I personally liked the chemistry between McKay and Robinson (they always make me laugh), the show never really found an audience and was widely thought to be canceled once the network shelved the show five weeks into its initial run. Final episodes are being run off through the summer, and have performed around a 0.4 with 18-49s.
    • It’s not much, but here’s a first look at Matt Groening’s first Netflix project DISENCHANTMENT. Personally, I’m looking forward to it; at long last it seems like Groening is getting back to the more adult humor of his early Life In Hell
    • Peter Chernin is planning to raise a $500+ million USD new media investment fund. Quick facts below:
      • Fund will most likely flow through The Chernin Group, which already backs new media ventures, most notably:
      • There are rumors that AT&T is looking to buy full ownership of Otter Media, its joint online video venture with Chernin. Valued at over $1 billion, the venture owns a variety of video companies including anime subscription service Crunchyroll and digital media firm Fullscreen.
