Ratings Report:

  • While not nearly the highest rated, broadcast news of the night kept its eyes on NBC’s TIMELESS, the drama that was saved from cancelation last year and has continued to struggle in performance over this season. Last night’s super-sized 2-hour finale was up 20% week to week for the series, but the 0.6 rating among 18-49s was 33% down from the 2017 finale. While NBC announced its newest slate this morning in New York (see below for a rundown), the fate of this series has yet to be decided. Also wrapping up its season on NBC was Neil Patrick Harris hosted game show GENIUS JUNIOR, which was even with last week, scoring a 0.5.
  • AMERICAN IDOL on ABC took the night overall, despite being down two tenths week to week. The show earned a 1.6 and drew 7.84 million viewers (only CBS’ 60 MINUTES in the 7pm hour drew more, with 8.5 million viewers). FBI light drama DECEPTION (0.7) was flat.
  • After a large outcry and push to save the show, recently canceled BROOKLYN NINE-NINE on Fox ticked up a tenth this week, earning a 0.8 – good enough for NBC, where the show will continue on next season. Elsewhere on the Fox lineup, BOB’S BURGERS in its usual time slot was even with last week at 0.7, while a later episode ticked up a tenth to 0.8. Recently renewed FAMILY GUY also improved a tenth to 1.0 this week, while THE SIMPSONS delivered a reliable 0.9 again.
  • On CBS, an 8pm episode of 60 MINUTES drew a 0.8, a tenth higher than INSTINCT usually performs in the same timeslot. MADAM SECRETARY (0.6) also rose a tenth, while NCIS: LA was steady with last week, scoring a 0.8.

  • NBC Sports Network followed up in the number two spot, broadcasting live coverage of the NHL Semi-Final match between Winnipeg and Nashville. The game drew a 0.5, same as MTV’s EX ON THE BEACH, which rounded out the top three3.
  • Elsewhere in nonscripted cable, two popular series, SWAMP PEOPLE (0.3) on History and RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE (0.4) on VH1 each took hits of one tenth apiece, while in scripted cable, FX’s ATLANTA similarly fell, dropping a tenth to 0.3 this week.
